Imsouane Beaches

Home to Africa's longest wave β€” a 900m+ longboard paradise inside a protected bay, cradled by a timeless Moroccan fishing village.

About Imsouane's Coastline

Imsouane is one of Morocco's most cherished and least-changed coastal villages β€” a small fishing community built around a sheltered natural bay roughly 90km north of Agadir. The bay is oriented almost perfectly to catch Atlantic swells from the northwest and wrap them around the headland in an extraordinarily long, slow, rolling wave that peels for over 900 metres before finally laying down in the inner harbour. This makes Imsouane Bay the longest rideable wave in Africa and one of the most exceptional longboard waves anywhere on earth, drawing devotees who return season after season for rides that can last two to three minutes on a good swell day.

Despite growing international fame among surfers, Imsouane has retained an authentic, low-key character that stands in pleasing contrast to the more developed surf resorts to the south. The village's small guesthouses, simple fish restaurants, and cafΓ© terraces overlooking the Atlantic create an atmosphere of relaxed simplicity. The wave is genuinely accessible to surfers of many levels β€” the long, mellow ride is ideal for longboarders and those learning to link manoeuvres β€” and the sheltered inner bay makes swimming and family beach moments equally possible. Visiting Imsouane is as much about absorbing the pace and texture of Moroccan coastal life as it is about surfing.
