Ortakent-Yahşi Beach is one of Bodrum peninsula's longest beaches — a wide sweep of fine white sand extending along the southern/southwestern coast, sheltered from the strong meltemi winds by the ridge of the peninsula. This protection creates reliably calm swimming conditions throughout the summer, making it one of the safest and most comfortable family beaches in the Bodrum area.
The beach has a more residential, local character than the heavily tourist-oriented bays of Gümbet and Bitez. The village of Ortakent-Yahşi behind the beach has permanent residents, local shops, and a good selection of mainly Turkish family restaurants. The beach strip itself is wide and well-maintained, lined with small beach bars and sun lounger rental areas interspersed with free public sections.
The water at Ortakent is clear and turquoise, with gentle entry and minimal waves thanks to the sheltered orientation. The sandy bottom and calm conditions make it excellent for children learning to swim. Snorkeling at the rocky ends of the bay produces good results. The beach is long enough that even in peak season it never becomes uncomfortably crowded, with plenty of space to spread out.
Ortakent-Yahsi is approximately 12 km south of Bodrum town. Regular dolmuş to Ortakent or Yahsi village from Bodrum centre. By car, follow the road south and southwest along the Bodrum peninsula coast — about 20 minutes. Bodrum-Milas Airport is 50 km north.
May–October. The sheltered position makes the beach pleasant even in May when other Bodrum beaches may be windier. July–August peak season is busier but never overwhelmingly so. September–October offers warm water (24-26°C) with noticeably quieter conditions and good value.
The free public beach sections are to the north and south of the main paid beach bar area. Water shoes help at some sections. The village itself is worth a short walk for local cafes and the old caravanserai ruins. Combining a morning at Ortakent with an afternoon in Bodrum town is easy by dolmuş.
