Bitez Beach is one of the most appealing bays on the Bodrum peninsula — a gently curving, wide shore with a mix of fine pebble and sand facing west across the Bodrum channel. The bay's orientation and geography create a reliable weather pattern that makes it a prime windsurfing destination: mornings are typically calm and perfect for swimming, while the afternoon meltemi wind builds from the northwest to provide excellent conditions for wind sports from around noon until sunset.
The beach is backed by tangerine and mandarin orchards — a charming and characteristically Aegean backdrop — and several good fish restaurants and beach bars. The village has a relaxed, slightly alternative atmosphere compared to the more resort-heavy western bays, attracting a mix of locals, long-stay visitors, and water sports enthusiasts. Several internationally-certified windsurfing schools operate from the beach.
For non-surfers, the morning swimming is genuinely excellent. The water is clear, warm and turquoise. Snorkeling along the rocky sections at the bay's northern and southern ends produces sightings of octopus, moray eels, and diverse fish species. Short boat trips from the beach reach nearby bays such as Torba and Gümbet.
Bitez is 8 km west of Bodrum town centre. Dolmuş minibuses from Bodrum run frequently (30-minute journey). By car, well-signed from the main Bodrum road. Taxis from Bodrum Marina take about 15 minutes. Bodrum-Milas Airport (BJV) is 40 km north.
May–October. Ideal for windsurfing April–October when meltemi winds are consistent. Swimmers prefer the June–September warm water period. September is particularly pleasant — warm sea, cooling air, and smaller crowds than the July–August peak.
Arrive early for best parking and swimming spots. Windsurfing schools typically operate 10am–5pm. The tangerine orchards behind the beach are charming for a short walk. The north end of the beach near the rocks has the best snorkeling. Sunset facing west from Bitez is excellent.
