Mai Khao Beach is Phuket's longest beach at 11 kilometres, stretching along the island's northwest coast within Sirinat National Park. This wild, undeveloped shore is a world away from the tourist beaches further south β backed by dense casuarina forests and mangroves rather than hotels and bars. The beach is also one of the few remaining nesting sites for endangered leatherback sea turtles, with seasonal conservation programs allowing visitors to witness hatchling releases.
At the southern end, a handful of luxury eco-resorts have carved out a niche for high-end travellers seeking solitude. Mai Khao's proximity to the airport also means you can watch planes dramatically approach over the beach β a unique Phuket experience.
Access via sandy paths through the national park forest. Some areas are remote and require walking. Southern resort area has better access.
Located at Phuket's northern tip, very close to the airport. Take a taxi or rent a vehicle. The national park entrance has a small fee.
