Somorrostro Beach sits between the iconic Barceloneta and the trendy Poblenou district, offering a distinctly local feel compared to the more tourist-heavy beaches to the west. Named after the historic working-class neighborhood that once stood here, Somorrostro carries a proud heritage alongside its modern beach culture.
The beach is world-renowned in the beach tennis circuit, hosting the Somorrostro Open and other international tournaments that draw top players and spectators from across Europe. Outside tournament season, visitors will find well-maintained courts open for hire, making it one of Barcelona's best spots for racket sports by the sea.
With its wide sandy stretch, regular lifeguard presence, and a relaxed promenade lined with chiringuitos serving cold drinks and tapas, Somorrostro offers a welcoming slice of authentic Barcelona beach life that locals truly cherish.
The beach is flat and easily accessible along the promenade. Wheelchair ramps connect to the main walkway and public transport stops nearby.
Take metro L4 to Ciutadella–Vila Olímpica or Barceloneta station, then a 5–10 minute walk along the promenade. Cycling along the seafront is also a great option.
