Playa del Postiguet is the heart of Alicante's beach culture — the city's central beach, set in a curved bay directly below the imposing Santa Bárbara Castle, which crowns the 166-metre Mount Benacantil above. The combination of a dramatic medieval fortress visible from the water's edge, fine golden sand, and clear Blue Flag Mediterranean water makes this one of the most photogenic city beaches in Spain.
The beach has been beautifully maintained with a wide promenade, regular cleaning, and consistent Blue Flag water quality standards. Summer mornings are the best time to visit — the castle turns golden in the early light and the beach is less crowded before midday. The MACA modern art museum and Alicante's vibrant Explanada promenade are within easy walking distance.
Getting to Postiguet is straightforward from anywhere in Alicante — it's within walking distance of the train station and old town, and multiple bus lines stop nearby. Despite the central location, the water is generally clean and the beach is well-staffed with lifeguards throughout the summer months.
Fully wheelchair accessible. Ramps from the promenade, adapted changing cabins, and an adapted bathing area with specialist equipment are available in high season. The promenade is flat and wide.
Playa del Postiguet is a 10-minute walk east of Alicante train station. Multiple city bus lines stop at the beach. By car, use central car parks on Avenida Condomina — parking underground is cheaper than street parking.
