Playa de San Juan stretches for around 2.5 kilometres north of Alicante city, making it one of the longest and most complete beaches on the Costa Blanca. The beach holds a consistent Blue Flag award for water quality, lifeguard provision, and facilities, and its relatively shallow Mediterranean water with a gentle slope makes it ideal for families with children.
Unlike the busier Postiguet city beach, San Juan retains a more spacious, relaxed atmosphere — the wide sandy beach rarely feels overcrowded. An outdoor gym, beach volleyball courts, and a cycle path running alongside the promenade add to its appeal. A string of chiringuitos and full restaurant facilities line the seafront.
The beach is easily accessible by tram from Alicante city centre (Line 3 runs directly to San Juan beach), and the large free car park makes driving equally convenient. It's an ideal base for a full day at the beach, particularly for families seeking good facilities, safety, and a relaxed Mediterranean atmosphere.
Fully wheelchair accessible with ramps, adapted changing facilities, and an adapted bathing area with hoists in the summer months. The promenade is flat and well-surfaced throughout.
Take the TRAM Metropolitano Line 3 from Alicante city centre directly to San Juan Playa station (20 min). By car, take the N-340 north from Alicante — free parking available at the beach.
