Cala Pregonda is unlike any other beach in the Balearic Islands — its sand is a warm reddish-ochre colour, tinted by iron-rich minerals in the local rock, and the bay is scattered with wind-sculpted rock formations and small islets that create an almost Mars-like landscape against the deep blue sea.
Located on Menorca's wild north coast, Cala Pregonda is exposed to the tramuntana wind and can be rough in adverse conditions, but in calm summer weather it's a hauntingly beautiful place to swim. The combination of the warm-coloured sand, turquoise water, and dramatic rock architecture is extraordinary — it's one of the most photographed wild beaches in Spain.
Access is by a 45-minute walk along the Camí de Cavalls coastal path from the nearest parking at Binimel.là, itself a beautiful beach. The distance keeps the crowds relatively manageable and rewards those willing to make the effort with an almost otherworldly natural landscape.
No facilities. Completely natural beach. Bars and facilities are available at Binimel.là beach at the start of the walk. Pack food, plenty of water, and sun protection.
Requires a 45 minute coastal walk from Binimel.là on the Camí de Cavalls path. Not wheelchair accessible. Rugged coastal terrain.
Drive north from Mercadal to Binimel.là beach (car parking). Walk 45 minutes west along the Camí de Cavalls coastal trail. Start early in summer to beat the heat.
