About Cala Mitjana

Cala Mitjana (meaning "middle cove") is one of Menorca's hidden south coast treasures — a beautiful horseshoe bay flanked by high limestone cliffs covered with wild herbs and pine. The green-blue water changes in shade depending on the sun angle, and visitors often find it difficult to leave.

This is a fully natural beach within the Menorca Biosphere Reserve. No buildings, no bars, nothing man-made interrupts the setting. The sense of complete wildness is part of its charm. Bring everything you'll need for the day — especially water, as the nearest facilities are back at the car park.

The adjacent Cala Mitjaneta is accessible via a short scramble along the rocky path to the east. Both coves are perfect for snorkeling, with the underwater world around the limestone rocks far exceeding what you'd find at busier beaches.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the walk to Cala Mitjana?
About 15–20 minutes from the Son Mercer car park along a woodland path. The total round trip including both coves (Mitjana and Mitjaneta) is about an hour's easy walking.
Is there shade at Cala Mitjana?
Limited natural shade from the cliffs in the morning and late afternoon. The beach has no umbrellas for hire, so bring sun protection and shade equipment if needed.
Is Cala Mitjana suitable for families?
Suitable for families with older children who can manage the walk. The calm, shallow water is excellent for swimming, but the lack of facilities means you need to be well prepared.
