About Cala Formentor

Cala Formentor is undoubtedly one of Spain's most dramatically beautiful beach settings — a 1.5-kilometre stretch of fine white sand enclosed by tall pine-covered mountains on the wild Formentor Peninsula. The water changes from the palest turquoise at the shoreline to deep blue out in the bay, surrounded by Mallorca's most spectacular mountain scenery.

The famous Hotel Formentor — opened in 1929 and one of Europe's legendary grand hotels — sits above the beach and lends an air of timeless glamour to the setting. The beach itself is wide and well-maintained, with sun loungers available for hire and excellent facilities including a beach bar, showers, and toilets.

Access to the Formentor Peninsula is controlled in summer: private cars are restricted, and visitors must take a shuttle bus from Port de Pollença. This excellent measure limits congestion on the winding mountain road and keeps the beach much more manageable than it would otherwise be given its worldwide fame.
