About Cala Agulla

Cala Agulla sits on the exposed northeastern tip of Mallorca, nestled within the Llevant Natural Park β€” and that protected designation is key to understanding why this beach is so extraordinary. The surrounding landscape is untouched: rolling pine-covered dunes, flowering rosemary and thyme scrubland, and rocky headlands frame a wide, open bay of startling beauty. The sand here is finer and lighter than most Mallorcan beaches, almost white in certain lights.

The water at Cala Agulla is renowned for its clarity and vivid turquoise colour, driven by the sandy seabed and excellent water quality ensured by the natural park designation. Swimming and snorkelling are both excellent, and the exposed position means there's usually a breeze β€” giving the beach a following among windsurfers and kitesurfers as well as sunbathers.

Because of its natural park status, development around the beach is strictly limited. There are no large hotels directly on the beach β€” just a car park, a basic beach bar, showers, and toilets. This relative lack of infrastructure makes Cala Agulla one of the most genuinely natural beach experiences on Mallorca, just a twenty-minute walk from the medieval town of Capdepera with its magnificent 14th-century castle on the hill.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Cala Agulla in a natural park?
Yes, Cala Agulla lies within the Llevant Natural Park, which protects it from overdevelopment and keeps the surrounding pine forest and dune habitat intact. No large hotels or commercial developments are permitted near the beach.
Is it windy at Cala Agulla?
Yes, the northeast-facing position means the beach receives the Tramuntana and Llevant winds more than beaches on the south or west coast. This makes it popular with windsurfers but can make umbrella setup challenging on gusty days.
Can you walk from Cala Ratjada to Cala Agulla?
Yes, easily. It's about a 1 km walk from Cala Ratjada along a pleasant beach road path. The two beaches are adjacent and many people visit both in the same day.
