About Praia do Carvalho

Praia do Carvalho is one of the Algarve's most thrilling secret beaches, accessed through a hand-carved tunnel through the cliff. There are no facilities, no beach bars, and no lifeguards โ€” just a pristine crescent of golden sand enclosed by towering cliffs on three sides. The beach was carved out by a local landowner and the tunnel entrance adds a sense of adventure that children and adults alike find magical.

The water is sheltered and remarkably clear, ideal for snorkeling along the cliff base. Carved stone benches and bookshelves (a cliff-side free library!) have been created in the rock at the top of the approach. This is the Algarve at its most raw and enchanting.
