About Praia da Falésia

Praia da Falésia is a breathtaking 6-kilometre stretch of beach backed by dramatic multi-coloured cliffs that shift from deep red and burnt orange to creamy white. The geological layering creates a natural canvas that changes colour throughout the day as the sun moves, making it one of the Algarve's most photographed locations. The beach itself is wide and sandy, with plenty of room even in peak season — walk east from the main access point and you'll find long stretches with barely anyone in sight.

The water is clean and safe for swimming, with gentle waves most of the year. This is a beach for walking, photography, and appreciating the raw beauty of the Algarvian coastline.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are the cliffs different colours?
The cliffs display layers of geological sediment — from iron-rich red clay at the base to white limestone at the top — deposited over millions of years.
Is there shade on the beach?
No natural shade. The cliffs provide some morning shade at the western end. Bring an umbrella or rent sunbeds from the beach bars.
Can I walk the full length?
Yes, the 6km beach walk from western Falésia to Olhos de Agua is spectacular and takes about 90 minutes one way.
