About Vichayito Beach

Vichayito is the secret escape that savvy travellers discover when Mancora feels too busy — a wild, remote stretch of Pacific coastline 15 km to the south, where sand dunes meet crystalline water and kite surfers carve across the offshore breeze. The tiny settlement of Vichayito has just a handful of eco-lodges and simple restaurants, preserving the sense of unspoilt wilderness.

The beach is famous for kitesurfing: Peru's coastal winds blow consistently from the south, creating perfect conditions from June to November when the trade winds peak. A few certified kite schools operate seasonally, attracting enthusiasts from across South America. Outside kite season, the ocean is calm and the snorkeling around the rocky outcrops is rewarding.

The landscape itself is extraordinary — arid sandy hills drop steeply to the beach, with the blue Pacific stretching to the horizon. At night, the sky above Vichayito is unspoilt by light pollution: one of the few places on Peru's coast where the Milky Way is clearly visible. For travellers seeking true remoteness close to Peru's best beach corridor, Vichayito is unmissable.
