Miraflores Beach sits at the base of Lima's dramatic coastal cliffs, accessible via winding ramps from the upscale Miraflores district perched 70 metres above. The grey-sand beach is part of the Costa Verde (Green Coast) strip and is one of the most popular urban beaches in South America's largest Pacific capital. The contrast between the concrete city skyline and the vast open Pacific is uniquely Limeño.
The beach attracts families and locals seeking refuge from the city heat, particularly between January and March when summer temperatures peak and the cold Humboldt Current warms slightly. The water remains cool by tropical standards, averaging 18–22°C, but remains swimmable and the waves are relatively gentle in sheltered sections, making it a good family choice.
Above the beach, the Larcomar shopping centre perches on the clifftop, offering restaurants and cafés with spectacular ocean views. The Malecón promenade stretching the length of the bluffs is perfect for evening walks, paragliding, and watching surfers ride the Pacific below.
Taxi or rideshare from Miraflores centre (5 min). Access via the Costa Verde ramps off Circuito de Playas. Public buses stop on Av. Bajada Balta.
December to April (Lima's summer). The rest of the year is overcast due to the garúa mist — the Pacific cloud layer that keeps Lima grey but mild.
Water can be cold — bring a wetsuit for swimming outside summer. Avoid valuables on the beach. The clifftop Malecón is excellent for sunset walks year-round.
