Playa Santa Fe occupies a section of Tulum's coastline south of the main hotel zone, where the beach retains more of its original character. Here the vegetation comes closer to the shore, native palms and sea grape trees cast dappled shade across the sand, and the relentless drive for exclusivity that has shaped so much of Tulum has not yet completely arrived.
The water is everything you hope for from the Riviera Maya: warm, clear, and intensely turquoise, particularly in the shallow coastal zone where the limestone shelf just beneath the surface turns the sea every shade between jade and electric blue. The beach is wide enough to feel spacious even during the busier seasons, and the gentle waves make it suitable for relaxed swimming and wading.
Playa Santa Fe sits close to the entrance of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve, giving visitors easy access to one of the most biodiverse coastal ecosystems in the entire Caribbean. A number of guided tours into the biosphere depart from this area, exploring the lagoons, mangrove channels, and coral reef systems that make this stretch of the Yucatán coast truly extraordinary.
Flat beach with easy access. No formal accessibility infrastructure. The road approaching from town is unpaved in parts. Suitable for most visitors in good footwear.
By bicycle (recommended in Tulum), head south on the beach road (Carretera Tulum-Punta Allen) past the main hotel zone. Taxis and mototaxis from Tulum town also serve this area.
