Playa del Carmen Beach is the vibrant heart of the Riviera Maya, stretching along the bustling 5th Avenue shopping district. This wide, white-sand beach offers excellent swimming conditions, world-class dining, and easy access to Cozumel Island via ferry.
The town of Playa del Carmen pulses with energy day and night. Along the famous Quinta Avenida (5th Avenue), a pedestrian-only street running parallel to the beach, you'll discover an eclectic mix of international restaurants, artisan shops, live music venues, and vibrant nightlife. The atmosphere is cosmopolitan yet distinctly Mexican, making it a favorite for travelers who want both beach relaxation and urban excitement.
From the main pier, regular ferries depart for the island of Cozumel, one of the world's top diving destinations. The crystal-clear waters around Cozumel's coral reefs teem with marine life, making it an easy and rewarding day trip. Back on the beach, the calm Caribbean waters and gentle slope make Playa del Carmen ideal for families with children.
Good accessibility from the boardwalk and 5th Avenue. Paved pathways lead to the beach with several access points. Some beach clubs offer wheelchair-friendly facilities.
Paid parking lots available in the town center. Street parking is limited. Many visitors walk from their hotels or take colectivos (shared vans) from Tulum or Cancún.
