About St Peter's Pool

St Peter's Pool is a stunning natural swimming pool on Malta's southeastern Delimara Peninsula, near the fishing village of Marsaxlokk. Unlike Malta's sandy beaches, St Peter's Pool is carved entirely from smooth, honey-coloured limestone, forming a natural amphitheatre of flat rock shelves around a deep, crystal-clear inlet of Mediterranean water. It is one of the most Instagram-famous spots in Malta and a rite of passage for adventurous visitors.

The pool is best known for cliff jumping. The limestone shelves rise to various heights — from gentle 1-metre ledges to adrenaline-pumping 5-metre drops — allowing jumpers to choose their comfort level. The water is deep even close to the rocks (typically 4-6 metres), making it safe for jumping when conditions are calm. Beneath the surface, the clear water reveals a rocky seabed dotted with sea urchins and small fish, making snorkeling another popular activity.

St Peter's Pool is completely wild — there are no facilities whatsoever. No lifeguards, no shops, no toilets, and no shade. Visitors must bring everything they need: water, food, sun protection, and towels. The flat limestone surfaces can become scorching hot in summer, so water shoes or a beach mat are recommended. Despite the lack of amenities, the raw beauty of the place draws a steady stream of visitors who appreciate nature in its unfiltered form.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is cliff jumping at St Peter's Pool safe?
The water at St Peter's Pool is generally deep enough for jumping (4-6 metres near the edges), but there are no lifeguards and conditions vary. Always check the water depth before jumping, avoid jumping when seas are rough, and never dive headfirst. Start from a lower ledge to gauge the depth. Jump at your own risk.
Are there any facilities at St Peter's Pool?
No. St Peter's Pool is a completely wild, undeveloped swimming spot. There are no toilets, showers, food vendors, shade, or lifeguards. You must bring everything you need including plenty of water, sunscreen, food, and towels. The nearest shops and restaurants are in Marsaxlokk, about a 20-minute walk away.
How do I get into the water?
There are several entry points around the pool. On the lower side, you can sit on the rock ledge and slide in gently. On the higher sides, most people jump in. There are no ladders, so getting out requires pulling yourself up onto the flat rocks. Good upper body strength helps, and the rocks can be slippery, so take care.
