About Veligandu Island Beach

Veligandu Island Beach is one of the most photographed stretches of sand in the Maldives, famous for its extraordinary sandbank that extends hundreds of metres into the turquoise lagoon of North Ari Atoll. This narrow tongue of pristine white sand, flanked on both sides by impossibly clear water, is the quintessential Maldivian postcard image. At low tide, the sandbank reveals itself in all its glory, creating a natural walkway into the heart of the Indian Ocean.

The island itself is a compact tropical paradise operated as a resort, with lush palm trees providing shade along the main beach. The surrounding reef system is exceptionally healthy, making Veligandu one of the finest snorkeling destinations in the Maldives. Swimmers and snorkelers regularly encounter reef sharks, sea turtles, manta rays, and schools of colourful reef fish in the warm, gin-clear waters just off the beach. The dive centre offers trips to some of North Ari Atoll's legendary dive sites, including Maaya Thila and Fish Head.

Evenings at Veligandu are magical. The sandbank becomes one of the best vantage points in the Maldives for watching the sunset, with the sky erupting in shades of violet and gold. The resort arranges romantic sandbank dinners and dolphin cruises at dusk, adding to an already enchanting experience. Whether you seek underwater adventure or simply wish to lose yourself on a vanishing strip of white sand, Veligandu delivers the Maldives dream in its purest form.
