About Fulhadhoo Beach

Fulhadhoo Beach is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful and untouched beaches in the entire Maldives. Located on a tiny, quiet local island in Baa Atoll, this beach delivers the ultimate castaway experience — a vast expanse of pristine white sand stretching along the island's coast with barely another soul in sight. Unlike the developed resort islands, Fulhadhoo has retained its raw, unmanicured beauty, making it a magnet for travellers seeking the Maldives as it once was before tourism transformed the archipelago.

The beach faces a shallow, turquoise lagoon that is perfect for wading and swimming. The water is extraordinarily clear, and the sandy bottom gleams white beneath the surface. The surrounding reef supports a healthy population of marine life, and snorkelers can explore coral formations close to shore without needing a guide or boat trip. Baby reef sharks are a common sight in the shallows, and sea turtles occasionally pass through the lagoon on their way between feeding grounds.

Fulhadhoo Island itself is home to just a few hundred residents and a handful of basic guesthouses. There are no luxury amenities here — simply fresh seafood, warm hospitality, and some of the most spectacular natural beauty in the Indian Ocean. The island is also known for its magnificent banyan trees and the traditional Maldivian way of life that continues largely unchanged. For visitors willing to trade comfort for authenticity, Fulhadhoo Beach is an unforgettable reward.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Fulhadhoo Beach really as untouched as they say?
Yes, Fulhadhoo is one of the least developed tourist destinations in the Maldives. The beach sees very few visitors, and the island has only a handful of small guesthouses. It is genuinely remote and undeveloped — that is both its greatest appeal and something to prepare for in terms of limited facilities.
What should I bring to Fulhadhoo?
Since facilities are very basic, bring reef-safe sunscreen, a reusable water bottle, snorkel gear (though some can be rented), insect repellent, and any personal items you may need. There are small shops on the island but the selection is limited. Cash is recommended as card payment is not always available.
Can I visit Hanifaru Bay from Fulhadhoo?
Yes, Hanifaru Bay is relatively close to Fulhadhoo within Baa Atoll. Guesthouses can arrange boat trips to Hanifaru Bay during manta season (June–November). Trips require a permit and are conducted with a trained guide to protect the marine environment.
