Scala dei Turchi (Stairway of the Turks) is one of the most unique geological formations in Europe β a blinding white marl cliff that cascades down to the sea in smooth, staircase-like terraces. The beach below features soft white sand against turquoise water, with the dramatic white cliff curving above like a natural sculpture.
Named after the Moorish pirates who reportedly used the natural 'staircase' to raid the coast, Scala dei Turchi is now a protected natural monument. The best experience is walking along the terraces themselves (where permitted) and watching the sunset paint the white rock in shades of gold and pink.
Steep path down to the beach. Not wheelchair accessible. Can be slippery.
Located 15 km west of Agrigento. Drive and park at the designated car park, then walk 10 minutes to the beach. No public transport.
