Fornillo is Positano's quieter, more bohemian alternative to the main Spiaggia Grande. Reached by a scenic 10-minute clifftop path from the centre of Positano, this pebbly beach is flanked by medieval watchtowers and backed by dramatic limestone cliffs draped in bougainvillea. The atmosphere is more relaxed and less touristy than the main beach.
The beach is smaller and more intimate, with a handful of laid-back beach bars serving spritz and fresh fish. The water is clear and excellent for snorkeling around the rocky headlands. At sunset, the cliffs glow orange and the views back towards Positano are breathtaking.
Requires a 10-minute walk along a partially stepped clifftop path from Positano. Not wheelchair accessible.
SITA bus to Positano, then walk down to the main beach and follow the coastal path west (10 min). Or by boat to Positano harbour.
