About Bingin Beach

Bingin Beach is one of Bali's most photogenic and characterful destinations — a compact beach community built into the limestone cliffs of the Bukit Peninsula, where cheap guesthouses, warungs, and cafes are stacked on natural terraces overlooking turquoise water and a powerful left-hand reef break. The visual drama of tropical vegetation cascading down the white cliffs to a perfect crescent of white sand and electric blue sea is genuinely breathtaking.

The surf at Bingin is a hollow, fast left-hander over a shallow reef best suited to intermediate and experienced surfers. On its day, the wave produces outstanding barrels. The beach community that has grown up here is quintessentially Balinese surfer culture — laid-back, creative, and brilliantly placed for watching sunset swells. The cliff-perched warungs serve excellent Indonesian food at prices that seem impossibly cheap for the setting and view.

Bingin is increasingly popular with photographers and Instagram travellers who come for the visual drama of the location as much as the surf. It remains more local in character than nearby Padang Padang, with fewer tour groups and a more genuine community atmosphere.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can beginners swim at Bingin Beach?
Swimming is possible in calmer conditions during low swells (typically October–March). In the dry season when surf is pumping, non-surfers should be cautious of the shallow reef and strong currents. Always check conditions before entering.
Is Bingin Beach good for a day trip from Kuta?
Excellent day trip — combine Bingin with Padang Padang and Uluwatu Temple for a classic Bukit Peninsula day. Allow 30–40 minutes travel from Kuta. Stay for sunset at Single Fin or back at the beach warungs.
Where can I stay at Bingin?
A cluster of guesthouses and small boutique hotels are perched on the cliff terraces, many with incredible ocean views. Options range from budget Indonesian homestays to stylish boutique accommodation. Booking ahead is recommended in the May–September dry season.
