Elafonissi is Greece's most famous pink sand beach, and one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe. The main beach is connected to a small island (Elafonissi) by a shallow, wadeable sandbar that turns the area into a magical double-sided beach landscape. Pink-tinged sand, created by millions of crushed seashells, gives the shore a surreal, rosy hue.
The water is incredibly shallow and warm, making it ideal for families with small children. The island itself is a protected Natura 2000 site, home to rare plants and nesting grounds for loggerhead sea turtles. The beach faces west, delivering spectacular sunsets.
Flat access from the parking area. Wheelchair possible to the sand edge.
90-minute drive from Chania through scenic mountain roads. Public buses run daily in summer. Large parking area (free or small fee).
