About Concon Beach

Concon Beach is a raw, powerful stretch of coastline just north of Reñaca in Chile's Valparaiso region. Unlike its polished neighbour, Concon retains a wilder character — black sand darkened by volcanic minerals meets the full force of the open Pacific, creating some of the most exhilarating surf conditions on Chile's central coast. The beach draws experienced surfers from across South America, drawn by the consistent swells that barrel in from the southwest, particularly powerful during the autumn and winter months.

The town of Concon is equally famous for its culinary heritage, specifically its empanadas. Rows of traditional empanada shops line the coastal road, each claiming to make the best version of this Chilean staple. The empanadas de mariscos (seafood) and the classic empanadas de pino (beef with onion, olive, and hard-boiled egg) are legendary. Visitors often combine a morning surf session with a leisurely lunch at one of these family-run establishments, watching the waves crash while enjoying golden, fresh-from-the-oven pastries.

Behind the beach, the Dunas de Concon nature sanctuary protects a remarkable expanse of coastal sand dunes, one of the last remaining dune systems on Chile's central coast. These rolling dunes support unique flora and fauna and offer spectacular views of the Pacific from their windswept peaks. Sandboarding has become a popular activity here, adding an adventurous dimension to any beach visit. The combination of world-class surf, legendary food, and dramatic natural landscapes makes Concon one of Chile's most rewarding coastal destinations.
