Boulders Beach in Simon's Town offers one of the world's most extraordinary snorkeling experiences β swimming alongside a protected colony of African penguins in the warm waters of False Bay.
Boulders Beach is Cape Town's β and arguably South Africa's β most remarkable snorkeling destination. Tucked inside the Table Mountain National Park near Simon's Town, the sheltered cove is home to a colony of over 3,000 African penguins. Snorkelers can enter the water from the beach inside the national park and share the water with penguins darting past at remarkable speed, as well as the small fish that attract them. The water in False Bay is significantly warmer than the Atlantic side (18β22Β°C versus 12β16Β°C), making it far more comfortable for extended snorkeling sessions. Entry fees to the national park apply. Arrive early in the morning for the best experience before tour groups arrive.
