About Twin Cove Beach

Twin Cove Beach is one of Eleuthera's best-kept secrets — two symmetrical crescent bays divided by a narrow rocky headland, accessible only via a rough dirt track in South Eleuthera near Rock Sound. The water here achieves a clarity that is genuinely startling: the white sand bottom is perfectly visible at four to five metres depth, and the sunlight refracts through it in shifting patterns that produce an aquamarine glow unlike anything in the northern Bahamas.

Each bay has its own character. The northern cove is deeper on the western side and has denser coral growth along its rocky margins, making it better for snorkelling. The southern cove is shallower and calmer, with a pristine sand floor that's perfect for wading and swimming. The headland between them is an easy scramble up for views of both bays and the open Atlantic horizon.

There is nothing commercial here — no beach chair rentals, no food vendors, no facilities of any kind. What Twin Cove Beach offers instead is a complete escape into natural Bahamian beauty. Pack everything you need, bring your own snorkel gear, and arrive early to have this extraordinary double beach entirely to yourself.

Visitor Information

Getting There

Fly to Rock Sound Airport (RSD) or Governor's Harbour (GHB) and rent a car. Drive south on Queen's Highway towards South Eleuthera. The dirt track to the beach is marked by a small sign; a 4x4 is recommended after rain.

Best Time to Visit

November to May — calm seas and clear water. Avoid the track after heavy rain as it can become impassable. The beach is stunning year-round but most comfortable in the cooler dry season.

Tips

Bring everything: food, water, snorkel gear, reef-safe sunscreen, and a first aid kit. The track is about 1.5 km from the highway. Check your tyre pressure before heading in. This is genuinely wild Bahamas — enjoy every minute of it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I really need a 4x4 to reach Twin Cove?
In dry conditions, a regular car can usually manage, but it's tight. After any rain, the sandy dirt track becomes soft and rutted — 4x4 is essential then. If in doubt, leave your car at the highway and walk the 1.5 km to the beach.
What marine life can I see snorkelling here?
Parrotfish, sergeant majors, wrasse, angelfish, and sea turtles are regularly reported. The northern cove has brain coral and sea fans just beneath the headland. Moray eels inhabit the rock crevices — give them space.
Is Twin Cove safe for children?
The southern cove is shallow and calm — perfectly safe for children of all ages to swim and paddle. The northern cove gets deeper (2–3 m) further from shore and is better suited for confident older swimmers and snorkellers.
