About Tropic of Cancer Beach

Tropic of Cancer Beach sits precisely on the Tropic of Cancer — the sun is directly overhead at noon on the summer solstice — marked by a painted sign standing right at the water's edge. In Little Exuma, the southernmost point of the main island chain, this beach combines geographic significance with breathtaking natural beauty.

The setting is everything the Bahamas is famous for, compressed into one perfect scene: a gently curving arc of powder-white sand, water shifting from pale jade at the shoreline to deep aquamarine further out, and absolute silence broken only by the lapping waves. There are no beach bars, no vendors, no facilities — just pure unspoiled shore exactly as it's been for centuries.

The snorkelling is excellent just offshore: the clear water makes it easy to spot parrotfish, yellowtail snapper, and sea turtles grazing on sea grass. At low tide, small sandbars emerge to one side of the beach. It's a 20-minute drive from George Town on the main Exuma island, making it easily achievable as a half-day expedition.
