About Cable Beach

Cable Beach is Nassau's crown jewel — a magnificent three-kilometre arc of powder-white sand lapped by some of the clearest, most vivid turquoise water in the Caribbean. Backed by a row of luxury resorts and dotted with beach bars, watersports concessions, and sunbed rentals, it is the Bahamas' most refined and accessible resort beach experience.

The beach takes its name from the telegraph cable that once landed here, connecting the Bahamas to the outside world. Today it connects visitors to the best of Nassau's beach life: from the lively Baha Mar resort complex to the west — with its casino, restaurants, and pools — to quieter public stretches where locals gather on weekends. Jet-ski operators, parasailing boats, and snorkelling guides patrol the shallows, while the offshore reef patches provide colourful snorkelling for those willing to swim out.

Cable Beach faces northwest, meaning the water is generally calm and sheltered. The sand stays brilliantly white due to the fine limestone composition, and the sea floor's pure white sand makes the water appear an almost luminescent blue-green. Arriving by morning — before the cruise ship passenger excursions start — gives you the best conditions and the most serene atmosphere.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Cable Beach free to access?
Yes, the beach is fully public and free. Resort guests get sunbed and towel service, but anyone can walk on the sand and swim.
Is there good snorkelling directly from the beach?
Yes — swim about 100–200 metres offshore to find small reef patches with tropical fish, sea fans, and occasional sea turtles. Visibility is typically 10–20 metres.
How crowded does it get?
It gets very busy when cruise ships are in port (typically midday). Saturday mornings and early weekdays are the quietest times. The beach is long enough that you can always find space.
