Varese Beach occupies a sheltered corner at the northern end of Mar del Plata's beach strip, where the headland creates a natural breakwater that tames the Atlantic swell into gentle, lapping waves. This calm bay has traditionally been the choice of families with young children and older residents who prefer peace over the carnival atmosphere of central Bristol Beach.
The beach is backed by a low coastal avenue with a relaxed neighbourhood feel — pine trees line the walkway, and small local restaurants and cafés serve the community rather than mass tourism. The balnearios here are less densely packed and less expensive, with a faithful clientele of Mar del Plata families who return year after year. The flattest water along the Mar del Plata coast makes it the safest place for toddlers.
In the evening, Varese Beach transforms into a pleasant sunset spot: the sheltered bay faces northwest, catching the last light long after the central beaches are in shadow. Local families gather here for evening asados (barbecues) and mate by the water, creating an authentically Argentine beach atmosphere that visitors rarely find in the tourist-centre beaches.

December to March for warm beach season. The sheltered bay makes it useable even on windier days when the open beaches are rough. Evenings in summer are delightful here.
Bring your own beach gear or hire from balnearios. Arrive early in January to secure a good spot. The neighbourhood restaurants serve excellent affordable food.
